Waterloo runs on brains: Google's engineers, startup founders, and Perimeter Institute physicists asking what to do with stock options and real money for the first time. Equity compensation is a puzzle most advisors never touch. I speak fluent math and plain English, and I help Waterloo families turn good incomes into real plans.
Serving Waterloo and the Waterloo Region by phone and video.
Waterloo is a city built on two engines that rarely share a hometown: world class universities and a technology sector that grew up around them, plus an insurance industry with roots here going back more than a century. The University of Waterloo's co-op students rotate through employers across the region, Wilfrid Laurier fills the uptown with its own energy, the Perimeter Institute does theoretical physics at the end of Caroline Street, and some of Canada's largest insurers run major operations from this city. The result is a population that is young, highly educated, and unusually likely to be paid partly in equity.
Equity changes everything about a plan's shape. Vesting schedules, exercise windows, concentrated positions in one employer's stock, and incomes that can double or halve with a job change: Waterloo households hold risks and opportunities that a standard template mishandles. Add a partner in healthcare, education, or the trades and the household needs coordination, not two separate plans. Add a child with a disability, which happens in every kind of family, and the RDSP conversation needs someone who is as comfortable with the math as with the meaning. That combination is this practice in one sentence.
I serve Waterloo by phone and video from Carleton Place. This site also carries a Kitchener page and a combined Kitchener-Waterloo page, because the cities share an economy even though each has its own character. Whichever you start from, the standard is the same: reasoning shown, questions welcomed, first conversation free.
A broker works for you, not for one insurance company. That means choice across insurers, advice shaped around your life instead of a product shelf, and someone in your corner at claim time, when it matters most. Read the full broker vs agent breakdown.

Less than it probably does right after a vesting event, and the right amount depends on whether your salary, your bonus, and your savings all depend on the same company at the same time. We map the concentration honestly, then diversify on a schedule that respects taxes and reality instead of ripping the bandage off in one year.
Often not as much as it feels. Two tech incomes, two equity plans, and a house whose value follows the same regional tech economy is a correlated household, and protection matters more, not less, when both incomes breathe the same air. We build with that correlation in view, including the disability side through the DTC checker and RDSP checker if it applies.
Because Waterloo, Kitchener, and the region each deserve their own conversation, and search engines aside, so do the people in them. The pages differ because the cities do. The person behind all three is the same, and the first conversation is free on every one of them.
Most conversations happen by phone or video, which is how I serve families across Canada. In-person meetings can be arranged when I am in the area.
