Accessibility is the mission, not a feature.

I am the Inclusion Strategist. A site with that name should work for every body and every mind. Here is exactly what we built, how to use it, and where to tell us what we missed.

Our promise

Most websites treat accessibility as a checkbox. We treat it as the point. If you live with a disability, use a screen reader, need larger text, get migraines from motion, or read best with a dyslexia-friendly layout, this site was built with you in mind, not as an afterthought.

Your accessibility toolbar

Look for the accessibility button in the bottom-left corner of every page. One tap opens your personal toolbar. Your choices are saved on your device, so the site remembers them next time.

Many of our guides also come in an Easy Read version with short sentences and plain words: see the Easy Read guides.

Made for everyone: these resources work with screen readers, keyboards and large text. If any part is hard to access, contact us and we will provide it in another format.

Read aloud

Reads the page content out loud using your device's built-in voice. Pause and stop whenever you like.

Dyslexia-friendly mode

Switches to an easier-to-read font with wider letter, word, and line spacing on a calm background.

Text size

Three steps larger than standard. The whole layout grows gracefully, nothing breaks.

High contrast

Maximum black-and-white contrast for low-vision readers.

Dark mode

A full dark theme for light sensitivity and night reading.

Underline links

Every link underlined, always, so nothing depends on color alone.

Reduce motion

Turns off all animation and movement instantly, on top of respecting your device's own setting.

Built in, not bolted on

  • Keyboard first: every page, form, menu, and the chat widget works with keyboard alone. Tab through anything, Escape closes dialogs.
  • Screen reader friendly: proper landmarks, labels on every input, and live announcements when the chat replies or a form has an error.
  • Plain language: the longest guides open with "The short version," a plain-English summary before any detail.
  • Clear form errors: if something needs fixing, you get a plain message and your cursor goes straight there.
  • No time pressure: nothing on this site times out or rushes you.
  • Video transcripts: every video we publish ships with a written transcript.

Our standard, honestly stated

We build toward the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA, and we keep working toward AAA. We have not paid for a formal certification audit, so we do not display badges or scores we have not earned. What we promise instead: we test with keyboards and screen readers, we fix what we find, and we listen.

Reviewed in October 2026

We ran a full accessibility pass over the core pages in October 2026: the home page, the RDSP guide, the tools hub, the booking and contact pages, both eligibility checkers, the calculator, a sample article, and this page. Here is what that pass confirmed, and what it changed.

  • Keyboard and focus: every menu, dialog, form, and checker step works by keyboard alone, and the visible focus ring (a thick navy outline with a gold halo) shows on every interactive element we tested.
  • Colour contrast: every text colour pairing we measured meets WCAG AA. The one failure we found was small gold text on pale gold backgrounds; we deepened that gold until it passed, on every page at once.
  • Tap targets: buttons, navigation links, footer links, and the language toggle all meet the 44 pixel touch target guideline. Checker answer buttons are taller still, at 72 pixels.
  • Forms and errors: every field on the booking, contact, checklist, and checker forms carries a label. Error messages are announced to screen readers, and your cursor moves straight to the field that needs fixing.
  • Easy Read: the Easy Read library now holds 18 plain-word editions of our guides, and every one is linked from the Easy Read hub.
  • Still open, honestly: the free RDSP Starter Checklist PDF can be read aloud by a screen reader, because its text is real text, but it is not yet a tagged PDF with marked-up headings. A tagged rebuild is on our list. Several core pages are also still English only; until their French versions exist, the FR button says so in French instead of sending you to a page that is not there. And when our first videos are filmed, each one will ship with captions and a written transcript, as promised above.

Tell us what we missed

Accessibility is never finished. If something on this site does not work for you, I want to hear about it directly, and I will fix it.
